Teaching Life Skills With Each #OOTD

Teaching Life Skills With Each #OOTD
My first reaction was, “I can’t let you go in public dressed like a clown.” Then, I remembered a piece of parenting advice I had received, “pick your battles”. Was this a battle I wanted to have each day, or could I learn to let this strong willed child take the wheel? I chose the latter, and can proudly say that my decision was correct. With weather appropriate guidelines, I allowed for my daughter to dress herself. Continue reading

Closing The Factory

Closing The Factory
Motherhood, to do or not to do, that is the question. However in my case, it was more like; to cease and desist or keep on keepin on. How does one determine the right time, if ever, to close the factory? This can be a difficult decision to make, but for me it was easier than... Continue reading

To the Aunts, Thank You.

To the Aunts, Thank You.

Growing up I was surrounded by incredible women. My parents had an amazing group of friends that were family to us. I always referred to them as aunts and uncles, not even realizing that we weren’t related at all. As a child, DNA meant nothing when it came to who family was. Family consisted of the people that loved me and made me feel safe. These Aunts of mine were instrumental in raising me, even though they didn’t have to be.

My Aunts were there for my mom when I was an unruly toddler. They were there for me when Continue reading

Yes, The Kids Are Fine

It happens every day. Multiple times a day. I receive a text or a phone call and the first question asked is, “How are the kids?” If you are a mother like me, you know this all too well. “How are the kids,” is a question we answer to just about every person we talk with, whether it’s online, in person or over the phone. People want to know about the kids. Well, what about me? I want someone to ask me how I am doing, how MY day going, what’s new in my world,

I think as mothers we Continue reading

Quick Meals For The Busy Family

The crockpot is my best friend. As a new mom, it’s quite possible I would have starved without my crockpot. We all have our favorite recipes for the crockpot but what about those times you rush out of the house and forget to throw something in your best friend? You get home from work, soccer practice, ballet, and drama club to nothing. Now what? The family looks to Mom for the answer to life’s biggest question; what’s for dinner? Fear not Moms, I searched the internet and came across some quick, 30 minutes or Continue reading

Making People Feel Beautiful

Over the past several years I have been involved in numerous charity events. Raising money for the Alzheimer’s Association, donation drives for displaced families from natural disasters, and even hosting exchange students from other countries. But the one that always impacts me the most is the annual Makeover Marathon for fighters and survivors of cancer. This charity event was founded by two women I went to high school with; one a make up artist, the other a hair stylist and owner of a salon in Loomis, Ca. These two beautiful souls came together four years ago Continue reading
